21ST CENTURY SKILLS |
GRADES: 11 & 12 |
The central theme of this course is the development of students’ skills that support employment in any area of interest. Emphasis is placed on using personal, interpersonal and organizational skills that contribute to workplace success. Students identify their leadership styles, collaborate, develop emotional intelligence, develop professional networks, use communication skills, and reflect on their own personal growth. They apply principles needed to contribute to business operations in general and management of projects in particular. Students will prepare for employment by learning proper interview etiquette and preparing employment documents (e.g. resumes – paper and electronic portfolios, letter of application).
BUSINESS LAW |
GRADES: 10, 11, & 12 |
After examining the US Constitution as a foundation for knowledge of rights and responsibilities students explore civil, criminal law, and contract law. Students engage in project learning through researching various business topics such as entrepreneurship, business ethics, and employment law and agency oversight. Analyzing case law, debating rulings and positions, and applying learning to current situations are common formats for learning. Industry and legal professionals are invited to participate in facilitating projects/learning during the course. Skills will be developed through analyzing elements of law and assembling research to demonstrate learning. This course may lead to a career in Business, Law, Entrepreneurship, Marketing and more.
Business & marketing Basics |

This course introduces students to specializations within multiple business career fields. Students will obtain knowledge and skills in fundamental business activities. They will acquire knowledge of business processes, economics and business relationships. Students will use technology to synthesize and share business information. Employability skills, leadership and communications and personal financial literacy will be addressed.
In this non-traditional course students will participate in project based learning, explore the career areas of marketing and entrepreneurship, learn to interact in a professional manner, solve business case studies, engage in DECA activities, and improve communication.

College & Career Readiness |

The purpose of this course is to provide students with instruction in the career planning process. Topics include a comprehensive skills assessment, identification of work and personal values, career interests, work and learning styles, and personality types related to career paths, college majors and academic success. Each student will participate in activities including job shadowing, reality day and will complete college and career-related projects. The student will begin to use the information to evaluate to what extent their career interests realistically match their skills and abilities and will leave the course with a plan for high school and postsecondary success (Recommended for all freshman students.)
Introduction to Technology and network security |

This course will introduce students to the concepts of information technology and network security. Students will learn computing fundamentals, including the basics of information technology, hardware, software, file management, networking security, cyber security, and troubleshooting. Students will also gain knowledge about living online, including a brief history of the Internet, networking, electronic communication, Internet safety, and IT careers.
Programming fundamentals |

Coding, or computer programming, is widely recognized as the language of the future. This course teaches the
foundations of coding and is intended for students with no previous background knowledge of computer programming. In this course, students will learn how to code in a fun and accessible way through a series of learning modules including video tutorials, code examples, programming challenges, and applied exercises.
Students will learn about the dynamics of the Web environment while building basic web pages using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Students will also be introduced to JavaScript programming language, where they will learn the basic units of logic, sequence, selection, loops, and if statements. This course will focus on the problem solving and critical thinking skills through student based exercises.

Personal Financial Management |

In this course, students will prepare to live on their own by developing personal and financial literacy skills to provide a basis for independent living and career success. Students will anticipate living on their own, and will engage in activities to develop their understanding of earning, budgeting, and investing, spending, and protecting wealth. Classes will be delivered through interactive lessons that include Internet resources and case studies, and hands on activities. This course leads into careers in Business, Law, Entrepreneurship, Marketing and more.
